Mother first, Queen second! Máxima of the Netherlands shoots daggers at second daughter Alexia, 19, as she pops gum while watching the Olympic swimming
Images of the Dutch royal family attending a swimming event at the Olympic Games on Sunday show the normally composed Queen Máxima irritated.
The source of the 53-year-old woman’s anger appears to be her daughter, 19-year-old Princess Alexia of the Netherlands, who openly chewed gum while competing in the 100-meter breaststroke final.
In a photo of the teenager (the second of three daughters Máxima shares with her husband King Willem-Alexander), her tongue sticks out of her mouth, with her gums clearly visible.
Meanwhile, a few seats away, the queen can be seen looking at the royal young man, with an expression of annoyance on her face.
She was also accompanied by her daughter Catharina-Amalia, Princess of Orange, 20, and King Willem-Alexander. Their youngest daughter, 17-year-old Princess Ariane, is not believed to have entered into the engagement.

Although her facial expression seemed irritated, the rest of the royal outfit was impeccable as always. The queen wore a striking dress with a multitude of bright colors.
Their presence at the pool is not the only event that the Dutch royal family attends.
Queen Máxima and her husband King Willem-Alexander (57) watched the final of their country’s mountain bike cross-country on Sunday.
The royal couple were accompanied by their daughters Catharina-Amalia, Princess of Orange, 20, and Princess Alexia of the Netherlands, 19.
The Dutch Pieterse Puck finished in fourth place with a time of 1:29:25. She finished just a few minutes behind the United States, Sweden and France, who took gold together with Ferrand Prevot Pauline.
Maxima watched from the sidelines and wore a beautiful floral dress, which perfectly matched the bright, sunny weather.
This came after King Willem-Alexander was photographed on Saturday engaged in an animated conversation as members of the Dutch royal family visited the athletes’ villages on the first day of the Olympic Games.
The Athletes Village was also visited by the Prime Minister of the Netherlands, Dick Schoof.

Meanwhile, the two princesses, like all the other youngsters, were seen taking out their mobile phones to capture the action
On Friday, a post was shared on the royal family’s Instagram account wishing the athletes luck and sharing some of the family’s plans.
It said: ‘Good luck to all the Olympians in TeamNL. Your hard work, dedication and passion have brought you here. Enjoy it [the games] make full use of it and make the Netherlands proud.
‘We are looking forward to exciting matches and special sporting achievements in Paris.’
The optimistic message was signed by King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima themselves.

Another caption to the post read: ‘The King, Queen Máxima, the Princess of Orange, Princess Alexia and the Prime Minister are in Paris at the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games.
‘The Royal Couple and their two daughters will be present at the Olympic Games until July 30. King Willem Alexander is an honorary member of the International Olympic Committee.’
A second report, shared earlier on Saturday, revealed more about the royal visit to Paris.
There stood: ‘From July 26 to August 11, more than 10,000 athletes will come to Paris for the largest sporting event in the world: the Olympic Games.
‘The King, Queen Maxima, the Princess of Orange, Princess Alexia and the Prime Minister [will] visit the Olympic Village where many athletes stay.’
