A vengeful and protective mother has divided the internet over her decision to kill, cook and eat a chicken that pecked her son in the face.
In a since-deleted Facebook post, Magan Schmidt wrote about how her family’s pet rooster, HeiHei, “attacked” her daughter, nearly gouging out her eye.
Schmidt wrote that the chicken “got its fair share” and said the family would eat “HeiHei nuggets for dinner.”
The post made its way to Twitter, where some users were horrified by Schmidt’s brutality, others were amused, and some agreed that HeiHei had it coming.

In her post, Schmidt spoke in defiant terms about defending her daughter from the likes of HeiHei.
‘Well, it finally happened. Our evil backyard rooster HeiHei attacked the baby!!’ she wrote. “We were SO lucky he didn’t do more damage than he did.”
He included a close-up photo of his daughter’s face showing a couple of cuts and bruises around her eye and wrote “half an inch, and I would have lost an eye.”
‘Nevertheless, he got his due!’ he added she with a shrug emoji. ‘Mom doesn’t play when it comes to her babies.’

Schmidt added a picture of what appeared to be pieces of HeiHei itself, chopped, breaded, and sizzling in a skillet.
But she also posted a photo of her daughter and HeiHei together in seemingly better times: The shot showed the girl and the rooster standing side by side as she ran her fingers through his brown feathers.
While some were shocked to see the pet fried, many were more horrified by the image of the rooster and the girl on seemingly friendly terms.

“I know people eat chickens all the time, but killing him specifically because he attacked his son doesn’t sit well with me when children are known to be opposed to animals,” wrote one concerned user.
‘Giant breaks into your house and starts messing everything up and then they slaughter and eat you for defending yourself. I’ve seen how kids treat animals and there’s no way the rooster attack isn’t justified,” wrote another.
“Imagine punishing an animal for doing animal things,” said a third.
Some backed Schmidt, writing “considering the girl might have lost her eye, she’d be cooking it alive.”
Many found humor in the situation, including one who wrote: “Revenge is a dish best served with honey and mustard.”
