A woman has been criticized online after showing off the outfit she lovingly made for her stepdaughter’s wedding.
The DIY dress, inspired by a $2,500 Stella McCartney dress, was described as a disgrace and a “complete train wreck” after screenshots were shared to a wedding shaming group on Facebook.
In her original post, the woman said she wanted to wear something special as stepmother of the bride.
She came across the Stella McCartney Rewild Flower dress on Pinterest and felt inspired by the handmade crochet dress.
But she couldn’t afford it, so she made her own version.
“350 hours later and I was still trying to finish it, so that explains the price tag,” she said.
She said she wanted to wear the dress again at her other stepdaughter’s wedding, but was thinking of dyeing the dress lime green and creating “spider webs” among the flowers.
“Do you think this will work out?” she asked, adding that only family would have seen the original dress.

While the people in the first post supported her, praising her craftsmanship and letting her know that the gown should definitely be worn again, the people in the wedding shame group weren’t so kind.
‘It got worse as I scrolled down. The bra that is visible under the slip does not fit. And it’s a bad copy of a dress someone else made,” one woman said.
“Does she deliberately hate her stepdaughter, or is she just that unapproachable?” asked another.

A third added: ‘I think it would look better. On fire.’
Others couldn’t believe how long the dress took to make.
‘350 HOURS! For a full-time job that is two and a half months. Ma’am, your time is worth more than that. People are crazy,” said one.
And some couldn’t believe she would wear it to one wedding, let alone dare to put it on for a second.
“I’m honestly trying to repaint it and pretend it’s new, that does it for me,” one woman laughed.
Another said it was a “terrible idea” with “good execution.”
People who crochet agreed that the stepmother has talent because it would be a difficult creation to make.
The woman looked confident in the dress and lovingly held her stepdaughter’s hand in wedding photos.
