Mother and her newborn baby narrowly avoid death after terrifying home birth – as she shares heartfelt message to paramedics who saved her life

A mother has told how she and her newborn baby Cruz almost both died during a terrifying home birth.

Mother-of-three Natalie Beecham went into labor within minutes of her waters breaking at her Highland Park home in the Gold Coast, Queensland, six weeks ago.

A home birth was not the plan for Mrs Beecham, who was 41 weeks pregnant, but after her waters broke in the wash, she went into labor by the time she arrived in her bedroom.

Paramedics Max Westerhof and Brooke Musty arrived at Ms Beecham’s home within 20 minutes.

“The moment we knew it was serious was after the first birth of the head, there was a delay,” Mr Westerhof said the Gold Coast Bulletin.

One of baby Cruz’s shoulders was above his mother’s pubic bone and remained stuck for ten minutes.

Cruz was eventually delivered, but came out without a heartbeat and not breathing.

Meanwhile, Mrs Beecham was also suffering from severe bleeding.

The two paramedics managed to produce a heartbeat in the baby boy within a minute of him being born, but his breathing was still poor.

Both Ms Beecham and Cruz were then rushed to Gold Coast University Hospital.

Nurses took Mrs Beecham straight to the operating room as she had lost about half her blood during labour.

Miraculously, Mrs Beecham and her son made a full recovery and were reunited with their heroic paramedics on Friday, six weeks after Cruz’s birth.

“I was very scared…words can’t describe it…I’m so grateful,” she said.

“The fact that they acted so quickly means that both Cruz and I are here and can have this meeting today. If they didn’t act as quickly as they did, things could be very different.

She said the paramedic’s faces would remain in her memory forever.

She added that Cruz is a happy and healthy baby and is her little miracle.
