A man and woman are trapped after a mother and her three boys were killed after their car crashed into a pole and hurtled down an embankment on a country road.
Emergency services were called to a junction of Research Road and Toorak Road, Yanco, 7km south of Leeton in southern NSW at around 11:15pm Tuesday night.
Police initially reported the crash as a single-vehicle accident after it was believed the car crashed into a pole before veering off an embankment, flipping onto its roof and coming to rest in a water channel.
As part of the police investigation into the crash, they spoke to a 32-year-old man and a 50-year-old woman, who were subsequently arrested and taken to Griffith police station, where they remain in custody.
The three children aged 10, 11 and 12 and their 36-year-old died before emergency services arrived.

Murrumbidgee Police District officers have identified a crime scene which will be investigated by specialist police.
The tragedy has rocked the Leeton region.
“It’s just a sense of desperation,” Leeton Mayor Tony Reneker told the ABC.
“It’s terrible news to wake up to, people are just shocked.”

The tragedy will bring NSW’s road death toll to 86 by 2023.
The tragedy occurred in Yanco near Leeton in the Riverina region of NSW
