An evil mother who abused her son so horribly that he had to have both legs amputated is back in prison after ‘having an affair with a sex offender’.

Tony Hudgell, now nine, suffered multiple injuries, organ failure and blood poisoning at the hands of his mother, Jody Simpson and her partner Anthony Smith when he was just six weeks old.

The pair were jailed for 10 years in 2018, but Simpson was released last February.

However, Simpson is now back in prison after breaching her strict license conditions by ‘having a relationship with a convicted sex offender’, The sun has reported.

Tony’s adoptive mother Paula, from West Malling, Kent, was informed of the update last week.

She said: “The fact that she is in a relationship with a convicted sex offender is shocking.

“It proves that she is still a risk to society and belongs behind bars.”

A spokesperson for HM Prison and Rebation Service (HMPPS) said: ‘We have no hesitation in recalling offenders to custody if they break the rules.’ MailOnline has contacted HMPPS for further comment.

Tony – who has had prosthetics on his lower legs since childhood – has met the Princess of Wales several times.

In March he underwent life-changing surgery in Sheffield, which will leave him much more mobile in his teens and adulthood.

Paula went to X to thank the staff who cared for Tony during the procedure. She wrote: ‘We are home.

‘We would like to thank everyone for their incredible support and well wishes and our biggest thanks to Mr Fernandez and his wonderful team at Sheffield Children’s Hospital where we were so well looked after. Back to Sheffield on Wednesday for our first appointment.’

Tony – who has won a Pride of Britain award – has previously raised £2 million for charity by walking long distances on his crutches.

He initially wanted to raise £500 for the Evelina London Children’s Hospital, which saved his life by running 10km in 30 days in 2020, after being inspired by Captain Sir Tom Moore, who raised more than £33 million walking in his backyard picked up.

After completing his big walk, Tony met the Prince and Princess of Wales who were chatting to the youngster for ‘ages’ as the couple attended the Together At Christmas carol concert at Westminster Abbey last year.

He has also met Prince Harry, along with a string of celebrities. In 2022, he was singled out by former Prime Minister Boris Johnson for his inspiration.

Despite the attention, Paula said of Tony, “He’s taking it all in stride, so to speak. He’s just great.

‘He’s a real people person. He can take up a room of people and talk to them all.”

In December, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis posted letters to Tony during their mother’s annual Christmas service.

Tony has also led to a change in English law known as ‘Tony’s Law’, enshrined in the Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Act 2022.

Tony’s Law called for longer prison sentences for those convicted of child abuse and neglect.
