Fans have accused Morgan Rogers of stealing Cole Palmer’s party during the Premier League match between Aston Villa and Chelsea on Saturday night. But that’s just not the case.
The celebration in question – which involves the player rubbing his arms and puffing out his cheeks as if he is ‘icy cold’ – was first performed by Rogers during his time at Middlesbrough.
The Chelsea star liked the celebration and decided to copy it after scoring either side of Noni Madueke’s goal during the Blues’ 3-2 win over Luton in December 2023.
When asked about it after the match, Palmer told TNT that Rogers had taken advantage of the celebration after scoring for Boro and told the 21-year-old he would do the same the next time he found the net .
Speaking to the broadcaster, Palmer – who spent time with Rodgers at Manchester City’s academy – said: ‘My son Morgz did one for Middlesbrough so I told him I would do it.’

The Chelsea star has continued to make the most of the celebration, taking it out on the likes of Everton.
Rogers repaid the favor by celebrating the same during the match between Aston Villa and Chelsea on Saturday evening. A decision that did not go down well with the Chelsea fans.
Rogers scored in the 42nd minute of the match to extend Aston Villa’s lead to 2–0 and decided to pull back the move while standing on the same pitch as Palmer.
Football fans took to social media to accuse Rogers of copying Palmer, but little did they know it was actually the former Middlesbrough who first carried out the celebration.
One fan wrote: ‘Morgan Rogers is definitely not bringing back Cole Palmer’s celebration against Chelsea.’ Another added: ‘Morgan Rogers celebrating Cole Palmer’s goal is still cold, s*** housery at its finest.’
One supporter wrote: ‘Morgan Rogers doing Cole Palmers celebration lol. Everyone has been messing with each other this season.” Another said: ‘Morgan Rogers takes Cole Palmer’s cele.’
However, some fans noted that it was in fact Palmer who “stole” the party. One social media user wrote: ‘That’s Morgan Rogers’ celebration, originally Cole Palmer admitted to stealing it.’
Rogers has been in good form at Aston Villa since his arrival earlier this year. As it stands, he has been involved in four Premier League goals in his last five games (3 goals, 1 assist).
Rogers signed for Villa during the January transfer window. He had been the subject of a number of Premier League bids in January, with the two clubs eventually agreeing a fee of £15 million.
Rogers joined Middlesbrough last summer but impressed for the Championship side with seven goals and nine assists, scoring against Chelsea in the Carabao Cup semi-final.
That’s why Aston Villa decided to pursue the England youth international, who came through at local rivals West Brom before playing for Lincoln, Blackpool, Bournemouth and Man City.
