More women than men have registered to vote in J&K state elections

There are more women voters than men voters in the eight constituencies of Srinagar district that go to polls on September 25 for the second phase of Jammu and Kashmir elections, officials said here.

Of the 7,74,462 registered voters, 3,87,778 are female, 3,86,654 are male and 30 people have registered under the third gender category, the researchers said.

In six of the eight constituencies, women outnumber men, except for the Central Shalteng and Eidgah constituencies.

β€œTo ensure smooth and hassle-free participation of voters in the elections, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has set up 932 polling stations, of which 885 are urban polling stations and 47 are rural polling stations,” an official spokesperson of the district administration said.

Of the eight constituencies in the district, Zadibal segment has the highest number of registered voters, namely 1,12,864, of which 56,408 are males and 56,451 are females. In addition, there are five transgenders.

The constituency also has the highest number of polling stations in the district, namely 143. This allows all registered voters to cast their ballot without any problems.

The Hazratbal constituency has 1,12,541 voters, of which 56,175 are males and 56,366 are females.

The Central Shalteng seat has a total of 1,07,770 registered voters, of which 54,185 are males and 53,576 are females, while nine voters are of the third gender.

In Lal Chowk constituency there are 1,07,199 voters, of which 53,425 are males and 53,773 are females. Besides, there is one transgender voter.

In Habbakadal there are 95,546 voters, of whom 47,404 are men and 48,133 are women. Nine are voters of the third gender.

The Khanyar constituency has 91,226 voters, of which 45,407 are male and 45,816 are female. In addition, three-thirds of the voters are gender voters.

Chanapora has 85,431 registered voters: 42,556 males, 42,874 females and one transgender voter.

Eidgah constituency has 61,885 voters, of which 31,094 are males and 30,789 are females. Two of them are voters of the third gender.

The spokesperson said arrangements were being made for smooth and peaceful voting in the district where the second phase of legislative assembly elections will be held on September 25.
