More than 12,000 newly manufactured railway coaches have digital display boards with information such as upcoming station, destination and running status, among others, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said.
“Digital display boards showing information like upcoming station, destination, train status and other safety information/announcements are provided in coaches of trains like Vande Bharat, Push-Pull, TEJAS, Humsafar etc. & Electric Multiple Unit (EMU) and Mainline Electric Multiple Unit (MEMU ) is training,” Vaishnaw informed the Rajya Sabha in a written reply on December 8.
He added, “AC economy coaches and VISTADOME coaches are also equipped with digital display boards. Currently, more than 12,000 coaches of Indian Railways are equipped with digital display boards.”
Vaishnaw's response came after BJP MP Sumer Singh Solanki wanted to know whether the government was planning to install digital display boards in railway coaches and the trains in which they would be installed.
“Indian Railways is trying to spread the same in phases by offering all newly manufactured Vande Bharat coaches, Push-Pull coaches, TEJAS coaches, EMU coaches along with retrofitting in existing coaches,” Vaishnaw said.
