Monterrey stun Inter Miami as Lionel Messi watches fellow Argentine Jorge Rodriguez snatch a 2-1 win for the Mexicans in Champions Cup quarterfinal first leg

Inter Miami suffered a late slump at home against Monterrey on Wednesday night as a sensational strike from Jorge Rodriguez gave the visitors a 2-1 victory in the first leg of their Champions Cup quarter-final.

Miami took the lead that evening through Tomas Aviles and looked like a good bet to maintain their lead, only for youngster David Ruiz to be sent off with 25 minutes to go for a punch on Monterrey’s Maximiliano Meza.

After his moment of madness, the Mexican side took advantage by equalizing moments later through Meza, then sealing victory when Rodriguez fired home a stunning late winner as compatriot Lionel Messi looked on.
