Monaco have made a new offer to West Ham for midfielder Edson Alvarez after their initial loan application for the Mexico international was rejected.

Alvarez, 27, joined the Hammers from Ajax in 2023 for £35m after impressing in the Netherlands for four years.

He has previously been linked with Chelsea, with the midfielder revealing last year that he was just ‘an hour away’ from joining the club in the summer of 2022.

Alvarez impressed in his debut season in east London, making 42 appearances as West Ham reached the quarter-finals of the Europa League and secured a 14th place finish.

This time, however, things were more difficult as the Mexican star was sent off twice, amid the club’s wider struggles under Julen Lopetegui.

A disappointing first half of the 2024/25 season ultimately resulted in the Spaniard being sacked last week as the Hammers languish mid-table despite heavy summer spending.

Nevertheless, Alvarez remains a key player at the club and West Ham rejected an initial loan from Monaco for the 83-time Mexico international.

The Principality club are interested in the 27-year-old and have returned with a new proposal.

It remains to be seen whether West Ham will be willing to accept a second offer after Alvarez started Graham Potter’s first match against Aston Villa on Friday.

Monaco currently sit third in Ligue 1, while they sit 16th in the Champions League stage and are well placed to qualify for the knockout rounds.

If he were to make the move to the club, he would team up with former Premier League stars Thilo Kehrer, Folarin Balogun, Denis Zakaria, Takumi Minamino and Mohammed Salisu.
