President Joe Biden accidentally dropped a challenge coin and was chasing him when it rolled away from him Monday during an awkward conversation with a senior military officer.
Biden, 80, stooped to pick up the coin after a botched handover with US Air Force Colonel Ethan P. Hinkins.
He greeted Hinkins before speaking to a group of Minnesota lawmakers at Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport.
Biden has distributed numerous presidential coins during his tenure, including to Pope Francis and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
“I know my son would want me to give this to you because on the back I have the state of Delaware and the 261st [Army] unit my son served with,” the president told the pope during a visit to the Vatican in October 2021.

Beau Biden, the president’s firstborn son, served in the Delaware Army National Guard and as the First State Attorney General before dying from brain cancer in 2015.
During a visit to the US in December, Biden also presented Zelensky with a challenge coin in exchange for a medal from a Ukrainian military officer.
The US president has also donated coins to athletes such as Stephen Curry of the NBA and celebrities such as Korean pop stars BTS.
On Monday, Biden gave a second challenge coin to Air Force Chief Master Sergeant Kristen M. Maloney without issue.
Air Force One landed in the Twin Cities ahead of a speech by Biden at a factory in Fridley, Minnesota to discuss his economic policies.
Biden avoided asking questions as he exited the plane about whether he was concerned about potential unrest leading up to former President Donald Trump’s impeachment in New York City on Tuesday.
Asking the same question later in the day, Biden told reporters, “I have faith in the New York Police Department.”

In December, Biden raised concerns about his health when he spoke in a hoarse voice and coughed his way through a speech on the economy. He is the oldest president in American history.
At the time, the White House released a statement from the president’s doctor, Kevin O’Conner, to reassure the American people that he just caught a cold.
In February, Biden was declared a “healthy” and “vigorous” 80-year-old fit for office by his physician following his annual physical at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center.
O’Connor provided an update on Biden’s health amid concerns about his age as he prepares to announce a 2024 presidential candidate.
The results were largely unchanged from last time, save for a lesion on his chest that was sent for cancer screening, and despite appeals from Republicans, there was no cognitive test.
O’Connor said Biden’s gait “remains stiff,” but insisted it has not worsened since the last inquiry.
There was also a detailed ‘neurological examination’ which found nothing ‘consistent with cerebellar or central neurological disease’.
