Moment tourist performs citizen’s arrest on ‘pickpocket’ outside Buckingham Palace gates then tells her to ‘shut up’
This is the moment tourists made a citizen’s arrest on a ‘pickpocket’ outside the gates of Buckingham Palace.
Footage showing two apparent ‘tourists’ catching an alleged pickpocket and detaining her outside the royal residence has gone viral on social media.
The video shows a man holding the alleged female perpetrator with her arms behind her back before shouting at her to ‘shut up’.
A woman with a red umbrella is also filmed arguing with the accused pickpocket, telling her to ‘stay here’ and threatening to have her ‘put on the ground’. It is unclear who the suspected thief tried to steal from.
A ‘tourist’ was filmed grabbing and restraining a suspected pickpocket outside the gates of Buckingham Palace
The woman, wearing a black jacket and white pants, is restrained by arms and shouts “call police, police, call” before letting out a scream.
The female tourist, wearing a red umbrella and pink jacket, then walks up to the alleged pickpocket and says ‘don’t move’ as onlookers gathered to film the incident.
She says in the footage: ‘Don’t move. No.
“No, I don’t want you to say anything. I already called the police.
“You stay here.”
The man threatened that he would put the alleged pickpocket on the ground before telling her to ‘shut up’
The male tourist holding the woman then said, “Otherwise you will be arrested right now.
“I’ll put you on the ground.”
The other tourist then chimed in: “If you move, he’ll put you on the ground.”
The alleged pickpocket screams ‘no’ throughout the video.
At the end of the fragment you can see how the man shouts ‘can you shut up’ at the pickpocket.
The incident took place outside the gates of Buckingham Palace. The area is known as a hotspot for pickpockets, with tourists often warned to be careful with their belongings when in the area

Advice on the Changing of the Guard website alerts visitors to the risks of pickpocketing and warns people to be careful with personal belongings.
It warns: ‘If you come to view, please take care of your personal belongings at all times as, like many busy places, pickpockets are known to operate in this area.
“Please report any suspicious behavior to a police officer.”
