A reckless Uber driver was caught browsing YouTube on his phone while behind the wheel while a nervous passenger filmed the incident on his mobile phone.

Within minutes of starting the trip, the driver began playing YouTube videos, shopping online and texting, according to the eager passenger who chose to remain anonymous.

He spent most of the trip on YouTube, writing new videos and scrolling up and down, choosing new ones to watch from time to time, paying little attention to the road.

The passenger also said that he swerved the car on the way to his destination and did not stop, despite the danger he had caused.

They told MailOnline: “At one point we almost collided and it was quite scary so I asked him to focus.” He did it for a while and then stopped again, and started shopping again.

“This went on and on for 45 minutes, until finally I was so angry and worried about crashing again that I asked to stop the ride and we could get out.”

After the ordeal was over, the passenger sent the video he had filmed to Uber and was not satisfied with the response he received after filing a complaint.

The passenger said: ‘In my mind, the madness was how Uber decided to deal with my concern.

“Instead of a properly constructed apology, offering compensation or at least a refund, they told me they were grateful for bringing it to their attention and would take care of it.

“When I told them that as an Uber company, the least they should do is have the interest of their passengers at the top of their priority, and since they didn’t seem to care too much from a legal perspective, then I would be taking it further.

In its response to the complaint, Uber said: “This is certainly concerning. We appreciate you taking the time to let us know. We expect all users to be respectful while using the Uber app.

‘We will follow up with Faycal, to try to make sure the experience you describe doesn’t happen again.
