The moment a Pennsylvania father was knocked down and bitten on the head in a bear attack in his garage has been captured on video.
John Swartz was filling a kid’s pool for his granddaughter at his Montour County home Thursday night just before the terrifying incident occurred.
Once the pool was full, Swartz walked into his garage to shut off the hose, unwittingly disturbing a bear rummaging through the garbage for food.
The bear bit him on the top of the head as he ran out of the garage.

Swartz was treated at Geisinger Medical Center for the bite marks on his head, including a tetanus shot
“My head hurt and it hit me against the wall, we didn’t know until we received the video about what was happening outside, I didn’t realize I fell over the bear and continued walking down the sidewalk holding my head and the house went in to get a washcloth,” Swartz told Fox 56.
“I knew I had injuries and blood was coming down.”
Swartz ran into his living room where his wife called 911 and frantically tried to cover the wound.
‘We will never forget. It was horrible, but we’re lucky that’s all that happened,” said Lori Swartz.
“He has a few wounds, but they will heal.”

Swartz was treated at Geisinger Medical Center for the bite marks on his head, including a tetanus shot.
State police arrived on the scene, and within hours of the incident, a Pennsylvania Game Commission officer set up a bear trap filled with donuts and sugar syrup to lure the animal.
Swartz said he doesn’t necessarily want the bear euthanized.
“It’s quite understandable why it did what it did. I surprised and it surprised me. There was only one way out and it was through me,” Swartz added.
The couple’s two outdoor cats did not attack the bear as it crossed the lawn, but ran to John’s defenses during the attack.
The PA Game Commission is still waiting for the bear responsible to enter the trap, while the Schwartz family says they will look over their shoulder at night from now on.
