A NewsNation reporter was thrown to the ground and arrested while broadcasting a news conference broadcast in Ohio about a train derailment.

Correspondent Evan Lambert was seen on video being handcuffed and led away by authorities after being told to stop the live feed he was giving at the back of a gym that Gov. Mike DeWine was speaking about on the other side.

As Lambert continued his broadcast, the officers began to push him and led him out of the room before knocking him down and handcuffing him.

Lambert was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct and trespassing before being released from prison on Wednesday.

Governor DeWin later expressed outrage over the incident and apologized to Lambert, saying that he had “every right” to be in the room reporting and that it was “wrong” for him to be arrested.

Lambert was broadcasting from East Palestine, Ohio, as Governor DeWin spoke about a train that had recently derailed there. There were no injuries in the accident, but there were concerns about possible chemical contamination that had taken place in the area as a result of the accident.

While they waited for the press conference to begin, Lambert and his team began their broadcast, during which the governor took the stage and began giving his remarks.

The police told him to stop the broadcast so as not to interrupt the governor, but he ended his broadcast anyway. It is unclear whether or not he heard the officer tell him to stop talking.

A group of about four officers then approached Lambert and told him to go away. They then started arguing, and Lambert could be heard telling the officers not to touch him, and that he had every right to be there under the First Amendment.

But the officers then began trying to get Lambert out of the gym, and one appeared to push the reporter away.

After that, Lambert was suddenly thrown to the ground and handcuffed as people looked on and expressed their horror.

He was then taken to a sheriff’s department car when reporters asked why he was being arrested and the officers refused to answer.

Preston Swigart, a photographer who was with Lambert at the time, said from the police’s point of view: “He didn’t obey orders when they told him to stop talking.

“Gyms have an echo, they’re loud, and the sound travels, so I guess they just didn’t like the fact that there was a sound that competed with the governor’s speech, even though it was on the other side of the room. ‘

But the governor quickly denied that he was responsible for the journalist’s detention.

“It’s always been my practice that if I’m holding a press conference, someone wants to report and they want to respond to the people on the channel, whatever it is, they have every right to do it,” he said. at the press conference.

‘If someone was prevented from doing that or told they couldn’t do it, it was wrong. It was nothing that I authorized.

Lambert was later released from the Columbiana County Jail shortly after 10 p.m. Wednesday.

‘I’m fine right now. It’s been an extremely long day,’ he he told his colleagues at the station after his release.

“No journalist expects to be arrested when they are doing their job, and I think it is very important that this does not happen in our country.”

However, he refused to release the details of his arrest, citing pending charges against him.

Railroad operator NorfolkSouthern said the train was carrying goods from Madison, Illinois to Conway, Pennsylvania at the time.

No injuries among the crew, residents or lifeguards have been reported, but nearby residents have complained of the smell of chlorine or smoke and headaches.

Authorities have since warned that the burning vinyl chloride in five of the derailed tank cars could send hydrogen chloride and phosgene into the air.

Evacuation orders are already in place.
