The 43-year-old woman was dropping her child off at a kindergarten in Bucharest, Romania, when the cobblestones gave way beneath them yesterday morning.
The young boy, who had just gotten out of the car, immediately fell into the huge pit while his mother jumped in to save him.
The driver of a garbage truck, which was parked next to the car, rescued the five-year-old boy with the woman who was helped out of the crater by the public.
The terrifying moment on Orhideelor Road in Bucharest’s Sector 6 was captured on nearby CCTV.
