Jose Mourinho is perhaps best known for his antics on the touchline, but on Thursday he was quick to share some footage of his work on the training pitch, which saw him involved in a possession drill with some painful consequences.
The Fenerbahce boss made headlines again with his successful press conference ahead of the Turkish team’s Europa League match against his former club earlier this month.
With Man United struggling with consistency and form early in the season, then boss Erik ten Hag was unable to steer his side to victory, with the Red Devils once again pulling from a winning position in the league.
Since joining the Istanbul-based Turkish giants, Mourinho has put in a solid performance, with his team in third place, eight points behind arch-rivals Galatasaray, but with a game in hand.
But the Portuguese manager gave a rare insight into his training by posting a clip to his Instagram account with a light-hearted caption warning his fellow coaches of the dangers of wearing the same colors as his team.
Jose Mourinho was tackled by one of his players during a possession exercise in training
Apparently he was in some pain, but after contact with his players he stayed down and waved for some physio attention
He was quickly helped and off the field by his players and some of his colleagues
In the clip, his players took part in what appeared to be an exercise in defense versus attack, ball possession and phase building during training.
As his strikers worked the ball around, he could be seen marching through the middle of the drill to get another view of how his team moves in possession and to give instructions, before the ball was passed his way.
Crucially, he wore a black and white top with black trousers, with his team divided into two groups; those with black tops and shorts, and those with orange bibs and black shorts.
So apparently there was some confusion. While one of his players had the ball, another crossed the boss, forcing the 61-year-old to the ground.
Mourinho took a painful-looking fall and appeared to experience some discomfort as he lay down while his players gestured for some physio attention.
He eventually got back up and limped off the field for closer inspection, but needed the help of his colleagues and players to help him off the field.
But despite the painful accident, Mourinho clearly saw the funny side of things and posted the clip to his Instagram with the caption: ‘Lesson for young coaches: “Never wear the same color as players”… they can pass you the ball. ..or do you kick from behind’.
A number of Mourinho’s former players were quick to comment on the video, but no one seemed overly concerned about his well-being.
Mourinho’s side are next in action on Sunday when they travel to Trabzonspor in the Super Lig
Former Chelsea and Man United player Nemanja Matic wrote: “Well deserved,” with some laughing emojis.
Fellow ex-Blues Willian and John Terry, meanwhile, both saw the funny side and commented with laughing emojis.
Fenerbahce will play in the Turkish Super Lig against Trabzonspor on Sunday.
