Moment ‘idiot’ motorist holds on to a loose mattress on his car roof while driving

A driver was depicted driving down a road at high speed with one hand extended out the window so that he could hold on to a mattress on his roof.
People who filmed the fool from a car driving miles up a highway have now handed the video clip to the police.
The car was filmed driving on the busy Eastern Road in Portsmouth, Hampshire just before 2pm on Sunday, leading onto the busy M27.
It was caught on camera by a stunned passenger in another car driving behind him, slowly overtaking the ‘mattress car’.
The motorist was filmed with a mattress on the roof of his Mercedes E-Class station wagon on the approach to the M27 in Portsmouth, Hampshire
The driver had tied some orange straps to the mattress and threaded them through the car’s roof rails
The unnamed passenger labeled the driving as ‘reckless’ and said that if the driver had had to brake hard, he would have lost control and there could have been a chain collision that killed people.
He said the ‘first idiot’ turned up the M27 from Chichester.
The car was a Mercedes with a large mattress – which would fit a double bed – precariously perched on the roof.
In the video, the Mercedes driver can be seen with one hand on the wheel and the other out the window, holding the mattress on the roof.
The person who filmed it said, ‘Talk about Sunday drivers.
‘Look at that idiot caught on the Eastern Road coming into Portsmouth from Chichester.
“I saw him at 1:50pm on the M27 and made this video.
This is an example of reckless driving. He has been reported to the police.’
A spokeswoman for Hampshire Police said: ‘On Sunday 13 August officers received a report of a car traveling down Eastern Road with an uncertain load on the roof. Agents are investigating.’
