A police officer in Ohio saved the life of a three-year-old girl who had stopped breathing after falling and hitting her head.
Bodycam footage captured the heroic moment when Soren Osicka, 23, performed CPR on the child until she began breathing on her own.
“Having experienced something like this in less than six months on the force is certainly something I’m proud of and I thank God that I was able to perform at that moment,” Osicka said. News5 Cleveland about the ordeal.
Osicka was among the officers who responded to a home in Ashland, Ohio, on January 8, after the three-year-old’s mother desperately called police when her daughter fell and hit her head.
When officers arrived on scene, officers found the helpless mother on the sidewalk, holding her child, who was unresponsive and not breathing.

In the video that captured the rescue, the mother says, “We were playing… and she fell backwards. I didn’t know she wasn’t breathing…
An officer tried to calm the mother by saying, “It’s okay. We start resuscitation. Give him a CPR mask.’
Without hesitation, Osicka began CPR, pressing down on the girl’s chest as another officer repeatedly said, “Stay with me, honey.” Stay with me, okay?’
The CPR provided the essential circulation and oxygen needed to sustain her life, and she began breathing within seconds, according to authorities.
But the three-year-old abruptly stopped breathing and Osicka continued CPR until she responded.
The girl can be seen raising her hands, her legs shaking, and finally starting to breathe again.
‘Come on. Please,” the officers can be heard saying cheerfully, and the mother tearfully thanked them.
The police department wrote: “Officers cared for the child until ambulance arrived for transport to a hospital. The child has since recovered and returned home.’
“When I ran to the scene of the accident, I saw the mother holding her daughter, limp and not breathing. I immediately took her away and started CPR,” Osicka later recalled.
“When the ambulance arrived, I picked her up and walked her there, and then she started crying.
“A lot of times when you hear a child crying you think something is wrong, but at that moment it brought me joy because going from a little girl not breathing to a little girl crying is a good sign,” Osicka said.
“Thank the Lord that at that moment everyone was able to act on the scene and that we had a positive outcome,” Osicka said.

The police department said what happened on Jan. 8 was a “splendid example of the officers’ compassion, poise and dedication.”
The division will undergo a refresher course this year to better prepare officers for such a scenario.
It said: ‘We encourage everyone to become certified in CPR because these life-saving skills can make a significant difference in emergency situations like this.’
The video has evoked an overwhelming response from locals and social media users, with hundreds of people expressing gratitude to Osicka for his heroic efforts.
