Geelong great Billy Brownless has left his fellow commentators in hysterics after he couldn’t resist pressing a mysterious red button he spotted in the commentary booth of a Melbourne stadium.

Brownless was doing Triple M’s Rush Hour live from Ikon Park on Tuesday for the Charity Shield Game between Richmond and Collingwood when he gave in to his urges and sounded an emergency siren across the ground.

The show was going smoothly until the footy cult hero noticed a big red button in the commentary booth.

“What’s that red thing over there?” he asked, forcing his co-host Anthony “Lehmo.” Lehmann tried to intervene by saying, “Wait a minute, Bill. Do not touch it.’

Fellow commentator Ryan ‘Rabs’ Warren then explained that the button was the ground’s emergency siren.

‘Then why would they put it in front of me? A big red button? Why would they do that, Rabs?’ Brownless asked.

Warren then explained that if he touches it, the siren will blow across the ground.

“I bet it won’t happen!” Brownless replied.

Warren replied, “We’re not making that bet.”

Before anyone could stop him, Brownless grabbed the button and pressed it – and the commentary team erupted in laughter as the siren sounded.

‘It really works!’ Brownless roared. “What’s a siren doing here?”

Brownless then reached for the red button again and sounded the siren for an extended period.

The former Footy Show star is known for his larrikin streak and sense of humor among fans of the game.

Last year he posed as an AFL goal referee during the Mad Monday celebrations in Geelong as stars Tom Hawkins and Cameron Guthrie reenacted the end of a Sydney-Adelaide clash in which Ben Keays was denied a goal in controversial circumstances.
