Gruesome footage captured the moment a 42-year-old woman was bottled, pushed and choked off a bus in Washington DC after telling a wild mob of young passengers to stop swearing in front of a young child.
The video shows redhead Kyla Thurston, 42, being harassed on Wednesday after asking the group to stop using abusive language as the group screams and curses in anger.
Thurston struggles for nearly a minute until she is thrown off the bus at the next stop. No one – including the bus driver – tried to save her from the onslaught of violence.
Thurston had initially relinquished her seat to a woman with young children.
“Then the kids were swearing,” Thurston said FOX. “I was like, ‘You know, can you all stop with the foul language?
“At that point, the children became unmanageable. They started to become disrespectful, as if they were saying things to me.
“Then before you know it, objects were thrown at me, and I thought, ‘Thank you, Lord,’ because during the whole incident, all I could remember was the kids hitting and kicking me – and I had no defense.’
Thurston said she asked a group of youths to stop swearing while on the bus, which led to her being hit by thrown bottles
She is then thrown off the bus after it reaches its next stop
Kyla Thurston, 42, was attacked while riding a Washington DC Metrobus
In 2022, the Metro Transit Police reported 460 violations on buses in the DC area. That is 68 more than last year.
The Metro Police Department is currently investigating the attack and did not immediately respond to a request for comment from DailyMail.com.
A spokesperson called the incident “disturbing” and “unacceptable.”
During the attack, Thurston said she had asked the driver to stop several times. The driver did not respond and did not call the police afterwards.
The bus driver made no attempt to stop the bus. He hasn’t warned the local authorities or anything to defend me,” she said.
“Even after I yelled with all my might, ‘Stop the bus – let me off the bus,’ the bus driver never stopped.”
In addition to the emotional distress of the incident, Thurston also suffered a bruised arm and neck. Her coat was also torn.
She said she will continue to ride the subway because she “fears none but God.”
The unnamed bystander who caught the attack said they did this to help Thurston.
They added that they saw people throw bottles at Thurston while others pushed her, grabbed her neck and strangled her as they continually tried to push her off the bus.
“When I watched the video myself, it shocked me — and I’m still shocked by it,” she said.
‘I didn’t want to come forward at first – but I fear none but the Lord,’
Thurston said she will speak to an investigator soon.
