An off-duty Connecticut police officer was punished with a five-day suspension after he was caught on camera punching a driver who honked at him for not running a red light.
Meriden Police Officer Corporal Allen Ganter was stopped at a red light at the intersection of France Street and Cromwell Avenue in Rocky Hill in December, reported NBC Connecticut.
Thomas Brocuglio stopped at the intersection behind Ganter and honked at him for not taking the correct turn.
Brocuglio’s dashboard camera footage showed Ganter getting out of his truck and confronting him.
The off-duty officer charged at Brocuglio, punched him in the face and said, “F******ga*****e. Who do you think you’re fucking? Do you want to be arrested?’

Ganter, a resource officer at Thomas Edison Middle School, was charged with breach of peace and third-degree assault
Brocuglio responded, “You’re being arrested for assaulting a citizen.”
As Brocuglio drove up to the light, he honked his horn before raising his middle finger at Ganter and saying, “What are we doing?” What are you doing? I’ll wait all day.’
Ganter got out of his truck, flashed his badge and said, “You can’t turn right, you a*****e.”
‘Real? Where is that? It says “stop here on red,” Brocuglio replied.
The driver then accused Ganter of being on the phone and the off-duty officer took pictures of Brocuglio’s license plate.
Ganter threatened to ticket him and call his supervisor when Brocuglio asked for his badge number.
At that point, Ganter punched and Brocuglio said, “You’re being arrested for assaulting a citizen.”
Brocuglio called 911 and said, “I just got attacked by a police officer. He hit me in the face through my window.”
Rocky Hill Police contacted Ganter and the CCTV footage was obtained by VOS61 showed him asking officers if he could file charges against Brocuglio.
“Is he filing charges against me, like trespassing because I yelled at him and stuff?” Ganter said.
The Rocky Hill officer explained that he was pressing charges for assault and that he had the attack on video.

Ganter was reassigned as a school resource officer, given a five-day suspension without pay and must complete three consecutive years of de-escalation training
“There’s nothing I can insist on that makes him yell at me, whatever it is?” Ganter said.
He then admitted to hitting Brocuglio, saying, “My fault, I’m wrong, I shouldn’t have done that.”

Meriden police conducted an internal affairs investigation and found he had violated the department’s rules of conduct.
He was reassigned as a school resource officer, given a five-day suspension without pay and must complete three consecutive years of de-escalation training.
