This is the shocking moment a mad dog sinks its teeth into a pug and refuses to let go as bystanders try to stop the attack by fending it off with a chair.

Gruesome footage of the attack in Leith, Edinburgh, yesterday captured the moment the helpless pug whimpered in pain as he was mauled by a dog more than twice his size.

During the video, a group of five bystanders can be seen trying to loosen the dog’s tight grip on the pug, but his strength proves to be too great.

A man is heard shouting: ‘Go away, I swear to God I will kill him!’ While the man filming the video can be heard saying, “I knew that dog was in trouble when I saw it… that’s outrageous!”

At one point, the pug is lifted off the ground by his leash as the owner tries to free him, but the attack dog manages to hold on and drag him back to the ground.
