Moment burning Russian military cargo plane carrying 15 crashes after taking off from airbase and ‘engine falls off’

A Russian military transport plane with fifteen people on board crashed shortly after take-off. Dramatic video shows the engine bursting into flames.

The Il-76 cargo plane crashed in the Russian region of Ivanovo, the Russian Defense Ministry confirmed.

Images published by local residents show fire coming from what appears to be one of the plane’s engines.

Unconfirmed reports suggested that an engine had come loose from the stricken plane in mid-air, with footage appearing to show a large object falling from the plane and crashing to earth.

Multiple videos show smoke pouring from the plane as it circles the sky, apparently in an attempt to make an emergency landing.

Later footage shows huge plumes of black smoke rising from what appears to be the crash site.

The number of victims has not yet been confirmed, but reports are circulating of several deaths, with ten bodies found at the scene.

‘For pilots, war is everywhere. Also at the back, where the weather is bad and an emergency can hit you in the sky above your house.

‘And in this situation you also have to find the strength to behave like a man.

“The hero pilots have proven that they are real Russian officers.

“We extend our sincere condolences to the families and friends of the victims.”

According to the loyalist SHOT media outlet, the burning Il-76 was piloted away from residential buildings by a 34-year-old pilot from Orenburg.

“The pilot was very experienced, had many hours of flying time and his family was proud of him,” a report said.

SHOT said there are fears that all 15 aboard the Il-76 were killed.

Telegram channel Voevoda Veshaet reported: ‘It is notable that the pilots managed to extinguish the burning engine, but apparently something went wrong and the plane crashed in a wooded area near Severny airport.’
