British Open champion Cameron Smith has slammed fellow Aussie golfer Cameron Percy following a bombshell revelation the affable Queenslander has joined the rebel LIV tour.

On Tuesday, Percy – who plays on the second-tier Korn Ferry Tour – stated on RSN radio that Smith was going play on the controversial Saudi-backed series with compatriot Marc Leishman.

It’s been reported that Smith has already defected and signed a contract worth a staggering $143million.

Plenty of golf insiders agree that the deal is already done.

‘Unfortunately, yeah, they’re gone,’ Percy said.

When quizzed about Percy’s comments on Tuesday ahead of the start of the FedEx Cup playoffs, Smith gave an angry response.

Percy (pictured) stated on RSN radio that Smith was poised to play on the controversial Saudi-backed LIV Golf Series with compatriot Marc Leishman

‘I’m a man of my word and whenever you guys (media) need to know anything, it’ll be said by me,’ he said.

‘If there’s something I need to say regarding the PGA Tour or LIV, it will come from Cameron Smith, not Cameron Percy.’

A sheepish Percy then appeared to backtrack on his comments on Wednesday.

‘I was on the radio yesterday in Australia and l said it doesn’t look good for Leish and Cam going to LIV,’ he tweeted.

‘My source is talking amongst other players. Not Cam and Leish. Now let me get back to my garden, it’s a mess.’

Smith’s defection to the LIV rebel series has been a major talking point for weeks.

He was frustrated when asked his next move not long after his epic one-shot victory at St Andrews last month.

Aussie golf legend Greg Norman is the CEO of LIV Golf and is desperate for Cameron Smith to join the rogue tour

‘I just won the British Open and you’re asking about that? I think that’s pretty…not that good,’ Smith said.

Former major winner Ian Baker-Finch called on Smith in July to ignore the eye-watering cash on offer with LIV golf and create a legacy by staying on the PGA Tour.

‘I know that they (LIV) are talking to him and many others,’ Baker-Finch, who won the coveted Claret Jug in 1991, told SEN radio.

‘I hope he doesn’t (go) because I think he can win (more) major championships and become the best player in the world.

‘I don’t think he needs the money. ‘He will be a $100million guy or more now. Does he want to win more majors or does he want the money?

‘I am hoping he stays and leaves a legacy like a Tiger Woods or Rory McIlroy… which he could do.’
