This is the extraordinary moment when a meteor was captured across the night sky by an excited onlooker.

Hayley Jensen, 35, from Grimsby, Lincolnshire, found the footage of the streak of light in the sky on her doorbell camera in the early hours of July 27.

The ‘huge ball of light’ was seen hurtling across the rooftops before leaving a trail of smoke.

The mother said she almost mistook the “amazing” phenomenon for fireworks as she left her house on her way to a car boot sale.

The meteor was filmed through the morning sky with Hayley Jensen’s doorbell camera

She said, “It took about three seconds. At first I thought it was fireworks, but it was just a huge ball of light. It was orange and left a trail of smoke.

‘I really couldn’t believe it if I’m honest. We had just left the house and were on our way to the car boot sale when we saw it.

“When we got to the car boot sale, I was really excited. I jumped out of the car and said to other people, “Did you see it?”

“No one else had seen it, but when I got home in the afternoon I checked my CCTV footage. When I saw it on screen, I screamed, “Oh my god, I really got it.”

Ms Jensen posted the video to Facebook and asked others if they had witnessed the meteor.

“Nobody else in Grimsby had seen it, but someone in Middlesbrough said they saw it about a minute after me,” she said.

“I’ve seen shooting stars before, because sometimes me and my daughter lay in the backyard and look for them.

“We’ve seen a few, but this was nothing like a shooting star.

“The video was absolutely amazing, but seeing it with my naked eye was even more amazing.

“I’ve seen people react saying it must have been great that it came through on the video.”
