Moment air ambulance helicopter crashes into hospital moments after take off killing four people

Four people have been killed after an air ambulance crashed into a hospital shortly after take-off.

The emergency plane could be seen hovering in heavy fog in southwestern Turkey before crashing down the side of the building.

The helicopter took off from the roof of the hospital in the city of Mugla in conditions of poor visibility.

The helicopter was expected to fly to the city of Antalya, as shown in images broadcast by television channel NTV.

The video shows the helicopter starting to take off from the roof of the Mugla Training and Research Hospital.

He is seen slowly struggling to get into the air, shaking as he makes a turn.

The helicopter can then be seen drifting in the fog minutes after takeoff before crashing in an empty field next to the hospital it struck, Turkish media reported.

The helicopter is said to have crashed into the building before quickly falling to the ground and shattering into pieces on impact.

Harrowing photos from the hospital show several panels torn from the building.

The footage shows the wreckage of the helicopter surrounded by rubble from the building’s wall.

All four crew members on board – consisting of two pilots, a doctor and another medical worker – were killed in the crash.

An investigation has been launched into the cause of the crash, with authorities trying to determine the circumstances that led to the crash.

The provincial governor blamed the blow on dense fog.

“The helicopter fell to the ground after hitting the fourth floor of a hospital during takeoff,” killing two pilots, a doctor and a staff member on board the vehicle, Mugla provincial governor Idris Akbiyik said.

“There was an intense fog,” Akbiyik said, adding that authorities were investigating the cause of the accident.

The accident comes just under two weeks after six soldiers were killed when two helicopters collided during an army training exercise in Turkey’s southwestern province of Isparta.

The Ministry of Defense did not specify at the time what caused the crash.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said: “The news that four of our brothers lost their lives due to the crash of an ambulance helicopter affiliated with our Ministry of Health in Muğla broke our hearts.

“I pray for God to have mercy on our deceased staff and extend my condolences to their families, colleagues and our entire healthcare community.”
