MoMA hires non-binary ‘Woke Kindergarten’ activist who calls Israel a ‘made-up place’ to give children’s workshop on MLK and climate change: Previously said kids could use the pronoun ‘tree’

The Museum of Modern Art in New York City hired the non-binary Woke Kindergarten activist — who calls Israel a “made-up place” — to lead a workshop on Martin Luther King and climate change.

Woke Kindergarten is a pro-black, queer, and transgender liberation pedagogy created by abolitionist early educator Akiea “Ki” Gross, who uses these pronouns. They previously made headlines for an audiobook that said children can use “tree” as a pronoun.

Gross was hired by MoMA to host a workshop Saturday on Martin Luther King Jr.’s relationship. to climate justice as part of their MLK Family Day.

The event was recommended for families with children six years and older and included activities such as building a model of a structure to improve your community and packing hygiene kits for unhoused neighbors.

The description of the event read: ‘At MoMA we celebrate creativity, openness, tolerance and generosity. We strive to be an inclusive place – both locally and online – where diverse cultural, artistic, social and political positions are welcome.”

In an Instagram post, Woke Kindergarten called Israel a ‘made-up place’

“We have a zero-tolerance policy for individuals who engage in verbal or physical harassment, discriminatory or threatening behavior, or hate speech, or who otherwise interfere with the experience of others. The museum will deny or revoke admission/participation in the program to individuals who violate this policy,” it added.

Gross, who uses the Instagram account Woke Kindergarten, posts words intended to teach the “language of resistance.”

In a post defining the word ceasefire, they said: ‘One place people are demanding a permanent ceasefire for is Palestine, because they are occupied or controlled by a made-up place called Israel, where settlers live who are called Zionists and who harm and kill. the Palestinian people who have always lived on the land.’

Protesters have been calling for a ceasefire in the war between Israel and Hamas since Israel launched a response to the deadly Hamas terror attack on October 7 that killed more than 1,200 people.

Gross and Woke Kindergarten previously made headlines when a Virginia school district posted (and then deleted) information on its website asking students to listen to an audiobook by Gross that suggested they should not feel safe around the Police.

Among the recommended readings, writing goals and school standards on the Fairfax Community Public Schools (FCPS) website, they listed Woke Kindergarten’s Safe audiobook as a summer resource for second graders ahead of the 2021-2022 school year.

A video of the audiobook began with Gross’ story stating, “we all deserve to feel safe.”

Towards the end of the video they said: ‘I feel safe when there are no police around.’

Parents who let their kids listen to Safe were then automatically shown other videos from Gross after Safe ended, thanks to the site’s autoplay feature that starts playing other related videos.

The next clip was a video from the series entitled Woke Read Aloud: They, She, He Easy As ABC. “There are so many different pronouns,” they read.

“That boy Diego likes to be called a tree,” Gross added.

A recent poll found that in just two years there has been a double-digit drop in support for schools requiring people to use their student pronouns.

A survey of 1,000 American adults by the religious freedoms group Becket late last year showed a rapid change in attitudes.

In 2021, most Americans — 54 percent of them — supported schools that required the use of preferred pronouns. Last year that dropped to 43 percent.

In those years, the share of people opposed to the policy increased by 12 percentage points, from 46 percent in 2021 to 58 percent in 2023.

The biggest change was among people aged 25 to 44 – those most likely to have children in school, Becket said.

The only group currently supporting the pronoun policy is between the ages of 18 and 24, researchers said.
