A mum has caused a stir online after revealing the ‘correct’ way to store dairy.

Content creator Chrissy, from Yavapai County, Arizona, took to TikTok to reveal that she puts her cheese in a resealable bag after opening the original packaging.

“Did you know that after you cut a block of cheese open, you have to take it out of the package and put it in another package?” explained the content creator, who is known for creating elaborate cakes.

But the reveal received a lot of backlash as people disagreed that it was the best storage solution.

The clip, which has been viewed 43,000 times so far, shows Chrissy removing a large block of cheese from its original packaging before placing it in a separate bag and sealing it.

“I don’t know why, but I saw it on the internet and so this is what I’m doing now,” she said, captioning the clip: “Is this everyone, or just me?”

But according to the comments, it’s quite a divisive topic, as one argued: ‘No. then the cheese tastes like Ziploc.’

And others quickly came up with their own solutions.

“I put it in a paper towel and then in a glass container,” one TikToker wrote.

‘If you wrap it in paper towels and foil and put it in a Pyrex bowl it will last so much longer!!’ a second claimed.

“We’ve always only covered the exposed end and it’s held up just fine,” agreed another.

“Yes, but I thought you were supposed to wrap it in something like parchment paper,” one user argued.

The one thing everyone agrees on is that all cheese should be stored in the refrigerator, at about 35 degrees.

According to the online cooking magazine: EpicThere is a correct way to store cheese, but it may depend on the type of cheese.

Erika Kubick, a former cheesemonger, told the publication that balancing moisture is the most difficult part of storing cheese, because too little moisture dries out and too much causes the cheese to spoil.

However, he says ‘don’t wrap your leftover cheese in plastic wrap.

“It retains moisture, which can help cause mold to form,” Kubick explained.

Instead, the expert says using a glass container with a vent to allow the cheese to breathe is a good option.

Martha Stewart also suggests leaving the plastic wrap for other foods.

“The best way to wrap cheese is with cheese paper, a special type of thick paper covered on one side with a combination of wax and polyethylene,” she explains.

‘You can buy cheese paper online and at specialty stores and cheese shops.

She added: ‘If you can’t find it, parchment paper – a lighter paper coated on one side with silicone that is often used in baking – is very good, and much cheaper.’
