“This bathroom is our master bathroom, and while we’re saving up for the major renovation, these Kmart products have come to our rescue.”

The mother said she bought two rolls of cockatoo peel and stick wallpaper for $15 a roll, four packs of gold and rattan handles ($8 each), a roll of self-adhesive oak woodgrain vinyl ($3), and a set of gold embossed bathroom accessories ($20).

Alex also used Rub N Buff in the mirror frame to clean up her old and dirty mirror.

The first way to quickly and easily update your space is to give it a “cosmetic refresh” with a weekend of work and some paint.

Cherie describes paint as “liquid gold” for your home when it comes to adding value.

If you want to save money, Cherie said everyone wants to know the shortcuts that can yield huge results.

And during her years of making houses, Cherie Barber learned a few:

“Always buy your appliances in bulk,” she said. “You save so much more than buying them separately and there are great package deals.”

She also said that you don’t need to buy brand name equipment, and that you should visit factories and wholesalers rather than convenience stores like Bunnings:

“I buy my countertops from a countertop factory for $150. At Bunnings, the same amount would cost me $500,” Cherie said.

‘You wouldn’t go directly to the specialist with anything else. Why would you do it for your kitchen?’.

Likewise, Cherie said you should “shop around” for flooring and tile, where factory purchases can save you huge amounts of money:

“Lighting is so important in a kitchen,” she added. “I buy all my LED downlights from an electrical wholesaler for $8.50, and the same thing would cost me $35 in Bunnings.”

Finally, Cherie said you should try to get a “full deal” with your trades to avoid paying them hourly rates.

“Things like this often cause your budget to spiral out of control,” she said.
