A North Carolina mother has been charged with murder after the decomposing body of her 10-year-old son was found in their home, where police say the child had starved to death.

A 911 call led police to her Priyanka Tiwari, 33, home in Morrisville on Wednesday around 5:35 p.m.

When officers entered the property on Craigmeade Drive, they were confronted with a horrific scene. Tiwari's young son was unresponsive, could not be resuscitated and his body began to decompose.

Investigators found almost no food in the home and police said the boy had lost a tremendous amount of weight in the month leading up to his death.

“Without the autopsy, we don't know how the child died,” Morrisville Police Chief Pete Acosta told WRAL.
