A mother who struggled to lose weight for years has detailed how she ended up losing 100 pounds by eating just three hours a day.

Andrea Sciolaro, 47, turned to stress eating carbs and fast food when her youngest daughter, now seven, was diagnosed with autism in 2018.

At her heaviest, Andrea weighed over 252 pounds and had extremely low self-confidence.

She ate carbohydrates regularly – Asian foods such as rice and noodles were her favorite.

She struggled to keep up with her two young daughters – Morgan, seven, and Scarlett, nine – and chose to hide her body by wearing only baggy clothes.

Andrea claimed the ‘turning point to beat the hump’ came when her youngest daughter, who is non-verbal and autistic, tried to run away from their family home in Florida.

She had gained so much weight that she had difficulty following her.

Luckily husband Sean Perkins, 51, a senior account representative, was able to intervene before Morgan ran into the road, but Andrea was left ‘traumatised’.

Andrea explained: ‘I cried for a week, I was so upset. My weight affected my ability to care for my children.

‘I realized it was holding me back and I didn’t like going out or leaving the house in my swimsuit. That was the turning point and I knew I had to change.”

Desperate for a solution, the English teacher began fasting and was stunned to see how quickly the weight came off.

She initially started fasting in January 2023, drinking bone broth only three days a week. For the remaining five days, she stuck to a low-carb, high-protein diet.

The mother of two also started incorporating exercise into her lifestyle.

Andrea introduced an hour of cardio, such as HIIT training (high-intensity interval training), into her routine three to four times a week.

She then began fasting for even longer periods of time.

Andrea said: ‘My metabolism was resistant to losing fat, so my body couldn’t retain fat.

‘By fasting three days a week I was actually able to restart my metabolism. On my fasting days I would just drink bone broth, and on the days I wasn’t fasting I would eat low-carb.’

Andrea had to change her mindset and the way she viewed food to stick to her new lifestyle.

She explained: ‘We’re told to eat three meals a day, but that’s not necessarily true.

‘I’ve been reading a lot and changing my relationship with food. At times when I was hungry it was difficult, but I knew there was benefit to be had.

“It’s about mind over body, you can choose to let your body’s cravings control you, or you can make the choice that gets you the results you want. Luckily, my family is very health-oriented, so they’ve been really supportive.”

The mother of two now weighs 143 pounds and even has a smaller dress size, as she now wears an eight.

Andrea said: ‘Fasting has changed my life, I feel better than ever before. While many diets focus on what you shouldn’t eat, fasting focuses on when you should eat – and only involves eating at specific times.

‘My skin is better, my hair looks better, all my aches and pains are gone. It was definitely difficult at first, it was a huge paradigm shift.

‘But fasting has forced me to make healthier choices and the speed at which I’ve seen results makes it easier to stick with it.’

Andrea now follows a low-carb, high-protein diet, but only eats five hours a day.

She revealed that it had improved her life significantly and made her more involved with her children.

The mother said: ‘It has changed my life and that of my family. They also started making healthier choices. I want to be a role model for my children and inspire them to be fit and healthy.

“Even my husband has lost weight, and he loves how I look now!”
