A mother-of-two has sparked heated debate after revealing why her husband never sits with her and their children on a flight.
Maria Roberts, from New Jersey, went viral after sharing a very candid video on Instagram.
It showed her perpetually doting on her children, aged five and three, as she sat on board a plane while husband Lou sat undisturbed in a completely different row.
But other social media users remained bitterly divided, with one saying: ‘I can’t believe women still accept this behavior in 2023.’
New Jersey’s Maria Roberts has sparked heated debate after revealing why her husband never sits with her and their children on a flight
It showed her perpetually doting on her children, five and three, as she sat on board a plane while husband Lou sat undisturbed in another row.
In the clip, which has been viewed more than 16 million times, Maria can be seen sitting in the chair between her son and daughter.
She is kept on her toes as she entertains the duo with reading material, untangles headphones and rummages through backpacks.
Meanwhile, her husband sat alone with his headphones watching the inflight entertainment.
Adding context to the caption, she said, “As Lou likes to say, ‘I would switch places with you, but they refuse to sit next to me.’
And viewers were left bitterly divided.
In one camp there were those who said they could relate, as one wrote: “All of them. Damn. Flight.’
Another said: ‘Hilarious, this is our family too! Only my husband sleeps well.’
And a third said: ‘Everything about this resonates.’
In one camp there were those who said they could relate, as one wrote: “All of them. Damn. Flight.’
On the other hand, some claimed it was unacceptable, as one claimed: ‘Oh, absolutely not!! Let’s promote a new standard and SHAME the incompetence of our husbands. You deserve better!!’
Someone else wrote: ‘I’m annoyed that this is still a standard we promote. Even young children can learn that daddy is a good option and doesn’t have to be with mommy all the time.
“Please, for the love of God, stop emphasizing that fathers are incapable.”
Another commented: ‘Why doesn’t he do anything with the kids? Wow, that’s a terrible husband and father.’
Since the reaction, part-time speech therapist Maria said Good morning America: ‘The idea is to make mothers feel like, “Oh my god, I’m not the only one going through this kind of situation” in a humorous way so that we can laugh about it and de-stress a little bit.
Maria said: ‘Maybe in the future we will change the way we set up our flight, but I also like to sit next to both my children’

‘We just try to get from point A to point B on the plane as smoothly and stress-free as possible. Both my children prefer to sit with me. So that’s exactly how we do it.
‘They sit with me, my husband takes a seat opposite us on the aisle, so he can sit there too.
‘But at the end of the day, mother is the one who coordinates all things with the children. Dad hangs around, but he’s there when needed.
