Mom is hailed as a ‘genius’ after revealing annual ‘Christmas present wrapping weekend’ tradition that sees her book into a hotel for two nights so she can kick back and wrap gifts in peace while drinking and watching TV

A mother-of-two has revealed her tradition of ‘Christmas gift wrapping’, where she books a hotel for two nights so she can relax and wrap presents in peace.

The US-based TikToker, who posts under the username @McKelligan, shared an insightful video showing how she got to work after heading to a hotel with a bunch of presents.

She wrote in her caption, “Second annual wrapping weekend! Booked a hotel for two nights, wrapped all the presents, ordered takeaway, watched a lot of TV and no one asked me anything.’

Other parents praised the busy mum’s ‘genius idea’, saying: ‘You win mum!! Stealing this for the future.”

McKelligan’s video, which was appropriately accompanied by a backing track from Sia’s Candy Cane Lane, showed her driving to the hotel with bundles of presents.

She put on some very festive attire before treating herself to a Starbucks and getting to work.

She sat down at the table in the room and started wrapping presents as she stole glances at the TV on the wall.

And after McKelligan finished packing, it was time for a well-deserved rest.

She leaned back on the bed and admired her chores before rewarding herself with a beer and a bag of chips.

The final shot showed all the presents ready to take back to her parents’ house.

McKelligan’s video has been viewed more than 2.8 million times to date and has been flooded with compliments from her followers.

One person wrote: ‘This is the most beautiful thing I have ever seen!! You’re a genius,’ and she replied, ‘This is driving me crazy… it’s the best! Why doesn’t it exist yet?!’

Another person added, “Wait, so we’re not hiding in our -0 degree garage anymore, packing at 1am? Noticed,” and she replied, “Right!?!”

A third person said, “Okay, but listen, an Airbnb so all the moms can bundle up and sip together,” and she replied, “I think you’re on to something!!”

‘Everyone complains about carrying presents. I would do everything at home except pack. That’s why I understand the hotel idea! I love it,” a fourth commenter wrote.

But there were those who weren’t sold on the idea.

One person wrote: ‘Oh…we’re in a different tax bracket.’

Another person added, “No, I would go back home and find seventeen more presents I hid around the house and get stressed out again,” and she replied, “Correct.”

“I feel like it would be easier to kick my family out of the house for two days because they have to lug those presents up and down,” a third person wrote.

“I would end up defaulting to eating all the snacks while watching TV and not packing anymore,” a fourth commenter wrote.

Some followers offered additional suggestions, as one wrote: “Or you can do it at home one day and stay in a hotel room and relax the next night.”

Another person suggested, “Okay, but can I do this once a month for educational purposes?”

She replied, “I feel like we should, good thinking.”
