Police are investigating whether a mother of three who died in a horrific car accident was driven off the road by her ex-husband.

The 36-year-old mother tragically died when her green sedan collided with a ute on Speedy Street in Molong, NSW central west at about 3.40pm on Friday.

Emergency services rushed to the scene, but were unable to revive her.

Two of her daughters, ages eight and thirteen, were in the backseat of the car and were taken to hospital with minor injuries.

The ute driver, a 35-year-old man, was pulled from the wreckage of his vehicle by firefighters and airlifted to hospital in critical condition.

He is believed to be the victim’s ex-husband.

Police are still investigating the cause of the accident, but are reportedly investigating whether the mother may have gone off the road. Nine News reports.

Witnesses claim the pair were seen at a local school and drove off in separate cars shortly before the crash.

No charges have been filed.

Police remained at the scene of the accident on Saturday before the wreckage of both cars were later towed away.

The ute driver is now said to be in a stable condition in hospital.

The tragic crash has rocked the tight-knit town of Molong.

“It is devastating to the town of Molong with the loss of a young local lady, it is terrible news for the families,” Mayor Kevin Beatty told Nine News.

“Last night in the city it was very gloomy and today very quiet again.”

“It’s not good news for the city at all.”

A local woman who knew the couple said she is “shattered beyond comprehension,” while community members said the crash will affect the entire city.

“I have no words for the heartache in my head right now, just a huge pain in my heart,” she said.
