Police are treating the death of a mother of three as a domestic violence incident as she was found to have taken out an AVO on her estranged husband who allegedly bumped into her.

Just before the tragedy on Friday, Kristy Armstrong, 36, and Troy Armstrong, 35, were seen yelling at each other outside their children’s primary school in central western NSW.

Mrs. Armstrong died when her green sedan collided with a ute driven by Mr. Armstrong on Speedy St in Molong at around 3:40 pm.

Emergency services quickly arrived, but were unable to save Mrs. Armstrong.

Two of her daughters, aged eight and 13, who were in the back seat of the car, were taken to a hospital with minor injuries and are now being cared for by their grandparents.

Kristy and Troy Armstrong (pictured) were together for 17 years before splitting last year. She had taken an AVO against him two weeks before the crash that killed her

Mr. Armstrong was pulled from the wreckage of the ute by fire and rescue officers and airlifted in critical condition to a hospital in Sydney.

The arborist is in critical condition and under police guard at Royal North Shore Hospital, 180 miles from the accident site.

Two weeks before the crash, a court had issued Mrs. Armstrong with a warrant of assault against Mr. Armstrong.

On May 25, the estranged couple appeared in Orange Local Court where an AVO was granted to Ms. Armstrong, the Daily telegram reported.

Ms Armstrong first applied for an AVO last November, around the time the couple separated, and a preliminary injunction was then issued.

Witnesses said the pair were seen arguing at a local school before they drove off in separate cars before the accident.

Social media posts revealed that the pair had been together since 2005 before splitting up last year.

The tragic crash has rocked the tight-knit town of Molong.

“It is devastating to the town of Molong with the loss of a young local lady, it is terrible news for the families,” Mayor Kevin Beatty told Nine News.

“Last night in the city it was very gloomy and today very quiet again.”

Tributes have flooded social media, with a local woman who knew the pair saying she is “beyond comprehensibly shattered,” while community members said the crash will affect the entire city.

“I have no words for the heartache in my head right now, just a huge pain in my heart,” she said.

When NSW Police were approached for comment, police said local and specialist homicide officers are still investigating the circumstance of the crash, but confirmed the two drivers know each other.

NSW Police are urging anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers.
