Moises Caicedo has revealed that a conversation with a Chelsea teammate helped him make the choice to join the Blues over Liverpool.

Chelsea had been linked with Caicedo for several months when Liverpool unexpectedly made a £110 million bid, which was accepted by Brighton.

However, Caicedo refused to enter into talks with the Reds as the midfielder and his advisors decided London was their preferred destination.

Instead he joined Chelsea in a British record £115million contract, and has now revealed that a midfield partner helped him make the move.

During Sky Sports’ Big Interview, Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez revealed they had held talks before the move was made official.

The Argentina World Cup winner said: “I called and told him to accept and come because Chelsea is a great and ambitious club.

‘And I have to thank God for that This gives me the opportunity to play alongside him at Chelsea because we all know what a great player he is, but he is also a fantastic person so I am grateful that he has chosen Chelsea.”

Caicedo recalled the conversation, saying, “It was a nice conversation. I mean, the fact that a world champion called you, one of the best midfielders in the world.

“It was really nice to get that phone call and he convinced me to come here.

‘He said it was a great club, there were a lot of young players, there was a sense of solidarity.

‘I’ve always enjoyed the bond in a team, because I think if that bond is there, we can handle any situation: pressure, anything. So that’s what motivated me to come here.

‘Now I enjoy playing next to him, also in training, in rondos. We are always together. So I’m very happy and I try to do better every day, as Enzo said, to be a good example for everyone at the club.’

Despite spending more than £1 billion on transfers since the arrival of Todd Boehly, Chelsea have struggled to climb back to the top of domestic football.

After finishing in the bottom half of the table last year, Chelsea have won just four of 11 Premier League games this season and sit 10th in the standings.

Chelsea recorded a 4-1 victory on Mauricio Pochettino’s return to Tottenham on Monday and face another tough test against Man City on Sunday.
