Mo Salah came close to missing another penalty after hitting the crossbar and relying on the ball to bounce off the back of the goalkeeper and into the back of the net.

The Liverpool superstar joined the Egyptian national team for the African Cup of Nations, which starts next weekend.

Egypt – who reached the final of the continental competition last time – took on Tanzania in a friendly match on Sunday evening to aid their preparations.

Egypt defeated Tanzania 2-0 in their final warm-up match before their opening match against Ivory Coast next weekend. However, it was not Salah's best performance.

Salah started the match well, providing Mahmoud 'Trezeguet' Hassan with the ball for Egypt's opening goal in the 33rd minute of the match.

He helped Egypt dominate possession but failed to create much up front. However, his moment to shine came when Egypt were awarded a penalty.

Salah then stepped up to take the penalty after Omar Marmoush was brought down in the penalty area in the 71st minute of the match.

The Egypt international looked to make a statement after coming under fire for his penalty form at Liverpool but struggled to hit the target.

He made a long run and seemed to shoot the ball into the top right corner. However, he couldn't hold it in.

As a result, the ball pinged off the crossbar and looked as if it would go down as another miss on Salah's penalty-taking record.

Fortunately for the Egypt international, however, the ball hit the back of the goalkeeper (who had dived in the direction of correction) and bounced into the net.

Salah seemed relieved, but also slightly embarrassed at how the goal had been scored. Nevertheless, Egypt celebrated their second goal of the goal.

Salah's status as Liverpool's undisputed penalty taker was in jeopardy after he missed a penalty against Newcastle on Monday evening.

Salah had the chance to break the deadlock when Luis Diaz was brought down in the penalty area. However, his penalty was saved by Martin Dubravka.

Salah made up for it by scoring a second try later in the match. However, that did not convince fans, who took to social media to criticize him.

They highlighted that Salah had missed against Arsenal in a 2-2 draw in April and that Neto denied him in a 1-0 defeat to Bournemouth in March.
