Mohamed Salah has ‘received interest’ from two of Liverpool’s biggest European rivals as the saga surrounding his Anfield contract, which expires next summer, continues to grow.

The Reds legend sprung a surprise after his team’s 3-0 win over arch-rivals Manchester United on September 1, admitting that this could be his final season at the club.

Salah has been with Liverpool since joining from AS Roma in 2017. In that time he has won the Premier League, the Champions League and a host of other trophies, playing 352 games and scoring 214 goals.

His contract expires at the end of June 2025 and the Egyptian’s recent comments have led to a wave of speculation over his future, with many expecting the striker to move to Saudi Arabia.

But it looks like Salah could ultimately stay in Europe, at the risk of playing against the team where he became an icon in a Champions League match. The National defeated.

Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus are said to be interested in the 32-year-old and have both made enquiries about the player in a bid to tempt him to stay on the mainland.

According to reports, the French club is keen to strengthen its already strong forward line of Ousmane Dembele, Marco Asensio and Bradley Barcola.

Meanwhile, Juventus, a new ambitious team, will hope to integrate Salah’s experience of scoring goals and performing on the big stage into their squad.

Either way, it seems like a no-brainer for any top European club to approach the Egyptian, as a dribbler with excellent finishing could potentially be acquired on a free transfer.

However, they will have to fight Salah’s desire to stay at the Anfield club as the forward is said to be ‘desperate’ to sign a new contract, according to the Liverpool Echo.

This follows a surge in interest from Saudi Arabian clubs, including Al-Ittihad, over the past year, with such clubs likely able to outdo their European counterparts when it comes to lucrative pay.

The Egyptian is said to have been put off by the declining reputation of his former team-mate Sadio Mane since he made the switch to the Middle East.

Rumours about Salah’s future began after he set up the first two goals for Luis Diaz and scored the third himself in the convincing win over United.

The late finish meant he has scored on each of his last seven visits to Old Trafford with an incredible haul of 10 goals. In total, the Egyptian star has scored 15 times in 16 games against United.

After the game he admitted he was unsure what his next career move would be, saying: ‘I came to the game and I thought, “Look, this could be the last time (at Old Trafford)”.

‘Nobody from the club has spoken to me about contracts yet. It’s not up to me, it’s up to the club, but we’ll see.

“As you know, this is my last year at the club. I just want to enjoy it. I don’t want to think about it (the contract). I feel like I’m free to play football and we’ll see what happens next year.”
