Moet and Chandon Spring Champion Stakes: What you need to know about the Group 1 race over 2000m at Royal Randwick on October 28

Royal Randwick will host the $2 million Moët and Chandon Spring Champion Stakes on Saturday afternoon at 4pm – and the Group 1 feature looms as a very open affair.

The James Cummings-trained Tom Kitten, with colorful jockey Adam Hyeronimus securing the ride, is the $2.30 favorite ahead of Chris Waller’s filly Tutta La Vita ($7) for Jason Collett.

Tutta La Vita is aiming to become the fourth filly in the last seven years to win the 2000m race.

Distance is perfect for the Kiwi star, barrier can be an issue.

Bet Right CEO Anthony Waller is confident Tom Kitten will salute ahead of the Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott trained Ganbare and Raf Attack.

“It looks to be the ideal race for rising three-year-old colt Tom Kitten to join the Group 1 winner,” he told Daily Mail Australia.

‘He has been a model of consistency and all his runs suggest the 2000m should be for him.

‘A win for Tom Kitten would mark a remarkable return for likeable hooper Adam Hyeronimus, who only recently returned from a long spell on the sidelines due to suspension.

‘Since his return, Hyeronimus has ridden fourteen winners, including a recent Group 1 in Tropical Squall.

“He has also positioned himself for a good day in Sydney on Saturday, with many of the top (Sydney) jockeys choosing to ride at Moonee Valley.

‘Opportunities to run favorites in Group 1 races are rare, and young Hyeronimus will be keen to take advantage of them.’

Waller said Waterhouse and Bott duo Ganbare and Raf Attack are not without hope and both share the same form lines as Tom Kitten.

All three recently contested the Gloaming Stakes, where Raf Attack prevailed with a narrow victory.
