Activision has announced plans to bring back a selection of multiplayer maps from last year’s Modern Warfare 2 for the upcoming sequel.
When it releases next week, Modern Warfare 3 will include updated versions of all 16 launch maps from 2009’s Modern Warfare 2.
In August, it was confirmed that Modern Warfare 3 will introduce more than 12 all-new 6v6 core maps throughout its live seasons. The first three will be released at the launch of Season 1 in December.
Additionally, Activision has now revealed plans to add a selection of maps from 2022’s Modern Warfare 2 post-release.
It said these will “gradually become available to play” throughout the live seasons. The first four, including Farm 18, Mercado and Shoot House, will become available in a special playlist “shortly after launch”.
These maps, which will be graphically identical to how they appeared in Modern Warfare 2, will not support new Modern Warfare 3 modes such as Cutthroat.
Modern Warfare 3 is scheduled for release on November 10, 2023 and is a direct sequel to last year’s Modern Warfare 2. Development is led by Sledgehammer, in collaboration with Infinity Ward, while Treyarch is in charge of Zombies mode.
Customers who pre-ordered or pre-purchased Modern Warfare 3 digitally can start playing the game’s campaign on November 2.
In an interview published last month, Activision president Rob Kostich said the company has Call of Duty games planned through 2027, and that there are currently 3,000 developers working on the franchise.
