Model divides opinion with ‘unique’ baby names she loves – with trolls saying they’re like ‘puppy names’

A pregnant mother has divided opinion online after sharing her controversial list of baby names she loves.

Nara Smith, a model and influencer based in the US, faced backlash from trolls after revealing the unique list online.

She posted the video under her TikTok account @narazizasmith and it has already been seen by almost 10 million people.

The 22-year-old is married to fellow model Lucky Blue Smith and they already have two children together.

They are parents to a little girl named Rumble Honey Smith and a boy named Slim Easy Smith.

The couple faced backlash in 2022 when their son was born and they announced his name to the world – they were criticized for making their baby a target for school bullies.

However, they managed to ignore the haters and Nara is still a fan of more unusual names.

In her TikTok posted last month, she told viewers, “These are some baby names that are on my list that I won’t be using. For reference, our kids have pretty unique names.

“My daughter’s name is Rumble Honey Smith and my son’s name is Slim Easy Smith. So these may not be well known yet, but let’s get started.’

The model exclaimed: ‘For a girl’s name, I really love the names Odie, Pepper and Dawn.

“They’re all really cute to me. I really like Cherry as a middle name, my husband doesn’t really like that name.

‘I also like Lumpy as a middle name. That might be controversial, and I like the name Pear as a first name.”

Moving on to boys, she adds, “I still like the name Frosty, if you guys remember. What else was there? Sunny, silver, zen. There are a few, but we’re not going to use them for this baby.’

However, commentators were quick to express their shock at the quirky choices, with one token: ‘Slim Easy and Rumble Honey? What’.

A second asked: ‘Slim Easy? as in Eminem?’, to which Nara replied: ‘No, as in the iconic older name Slim that was widely used back in the day’.

Meanwhile, a third commented: ‘Baby names… what about when they grow up,’ alongside a crying emoji.

Another added: ‘I think people forget that their children will grow up to be adults. Imagine telling someone during a job interview that your name is Slim Easy.’

Others joked: “How about Apple Bottom Jeans” and “Frosty… sister please be serious.”

Another joked: ‘Do you name children or cats?’, while someone else chimed in: ‘Puppy names’.

A surprised viewer asked: ‘Why are the names so unique?’, to which the model explained that she prefers ‘no one else has the same name, or at least it’s not common at all’.

Someone else reasoned: ‘These names are so cute but I feel like as they get older it won’t fit anymore.’

While not everyone hated and some users liked the names, they wrote, “I love all your name choices. So unique and cute’.

Another commented, “I love it when babies have unique names! Your kids have such cool names! My children’s names are River, Arrow, Storm and Ember’.

Meanwhile, someone else commented: ‘You’ll all look like models. These names are appropriate’.

It comes just after the most popular baby names of 2023 were revealed, with a new pick claiming the top spot on the girls’ list.

While Mohammed continues to rule for boys, a girl’s name previously pushed out of the top spot has once again secured the crown, according to BabyCentre, the leading pregnancy and parenting destination.

Olivia has returned to the number one spot for 2023, thanks in part to the way BabyCentre ranks her name.
