The trip to Barcelona came four years after Klopp’s side memorably beat the Catalans 4-0 in the second leg of their Champions League semi-final.

The famous comeback saw the Reds make up a 3-0 deficit in the first leg before beating Tottenham 1-0 in the final.

The team’s hiatus came after a grueling run of six games in 20 days.

Liverpool took six consecutive wins from the games to boost their hopes of finishing in the top four.

The Liverpool players are said to have been boosted by the defeats of Newcastle and Manchester United during their break at Barcelona.

Newcastle were beaten 2-0 by Arsenal on Sunday, while Manchester United lost 1-0 to West Ham.

The Reds are three points behind Newcastle and two points behind Man United, but have played a game more than both of their rivals in the race for the Champions League.
