- The news meant she had to withdraw from the chance to win a UFC contract
- Now she is focused on her baby, but she might pursue her dream again in the future
MMA fighter Corinne Laframboise insists she will not ‘close the door’ on her ambitions to fight in the UFC – even after having to pull out of the fight of her life after discovering she was pregnant just days earlier.
The current flyweight champion in the UAE Warriors promotion was scheduled to fight Rainn Guerrero on Dana White’s Contender Series on September 5, with a UFC contract up for grabs for the winner.
However, after a routine blood test and just six days before the fight, her doctor called to say she was three months pregnant.
Luckily, because she had no sparring training, the baby was completely unscathed from her weeks of preparation.
“I was sitting in the car waiting for my fiancée and it was like the whole world stopped – we didn’t expect it,” the 34-year-old said BBC Sports.

‘The next day we did the scan to see if there was a baby or a mistake (by the doctor), and there was one baby. We heard the heartbeat, we saw the two arms, two feet.
“And (now) we know it’s a girl. And she’s healthy, no problem.’
You might be wondering how come she didn’t notice any signs that she was pregnant, but through all her intense training and strict dieting, she hasn’t gained any weight.
While she’s going to focus on her baby for now, she hasn’t ruled out a possible future Contender Series fight.
The UAE Warriors flyweight champion has not ruled out that she will one day go for her dream again. “I was made to play in the UFC,” she said
“I can’t tell you now,” she said. ‘I want to focus on the baby and what’s going to happen.
‘At best, maybe I can keep fighting. I know I was made to play in the UFC. I’m strong enough to be there, I like to finish people in the first and second rounds, I put on a good show, I’m really marketable.
“I just check to see how the baby is doing, but I don’t close the door.”
