MMA champion launches astonishing attack on female commentator: ‘She is annoying and trying so hard’
- Laura Sanko’s commentary has been criticized
- Jamie Varner launched an astonishing attack
- But the WEC champion received a lot of criticism
Retired MMA champion Jamie Varner has been reminded of Laura Sanko’s credentials after he launched an astonishing attack on her commentary skills.
Sanko, 41, was on hand to watch the latest UFC event at the Apex, which saw Rose Namajunas defeat Amanda Ribas via unanimous decision.
But Varner, a former WEC champion and UFC veteran, has controversially criticized Sanko on social media in a duo of posts that sparked backlash from fans.
“Laura Sanko is so bad at commentating!” he started. ‘She’s a go-getter who talks about things she knows nothing about.
“Talking about blast doubles and how tiring it can be in the first round of the fight, like, what do you know about all that stuff? Stay the course, TryHard.”
Laura Sanko has hit back at a former UFC star who criticized her comments
He continued, “Laura Sanko is ruining the fights by talking so much. Leave the commentary to the people who actually fought.
“A female UFC fighter should have that job, she’s just annoying and it’s clear she’s trying so hard and doesn’t know what she’s talking about.”
But Sanko has done her best and emphasizes that she has the necessary experience to share her insight into the action.
“Jamie Varner, you and I actually fought on the same card for Titan FC in 2011,” she said in a lengthy rebuttal.
“We warmed up next to each other in the basement of the Memorial Hall building in KCK. My best friend braided your hair because you couldn’t find anyone to do it. I remember thinking how cool it was back then to be on a map with you. I had followed your career in the WEC and was honestly a bit of a star.
“It’s okay that you don’t like my comments, but with respect, I have been part of this competition and training since 2006.
“I have a brown belt in Jiu Jitsu and while I can’t compare my career to yours, I have fought. And if UFC had a 105 division, I would have fought much longer.”
Sanko became the UFC’s first female commentator since UFC 1 at UFC Vegas 68.
