Minnesota Twins manager Rocco Baldelli was ejected Saturday after an umpire made extensive checks on Domingo Germán after three perfect innings and allowed the New York Yankees pitcher to stay in the game.
The 30-year old Germán was checked after the top of the third by crew chief James Hoye and again when he entered the field during the top of the fourth. Yankees manager Aaron Boone and team translator Marlon Abreu joined the discussion, leading to a five-and-a-half-minute gap between the end of the third and the start of the fourth.
When Germán was allowed back to the mound, Baldelli didn’t look too happy coming out of the dugout and pointed repeatedly as Hoye threw the manager out of the game.
Twins bench coach Jayce Tingler took over as manager. After the 6-1 loss, the Twins’ official Twitter account joked about Baldelli throwing.
“We’re going to wash our hands of this,” the tweet read.
