Harry Caray will always be remembered as one of the great voices in MLB and Chicago Cubs history, and the league tried to honor his memory on Thursday night – with mixed results.

At the Field of Dreams game in Iowa, MLB used cutting-edge technology to project a holographic version of the late Caray, singing in the commentary booth.

Caray – who died nearly 25 years ago – called professional baseball games for the St. Louis Cardinals, St. Louis Browns, Oakland Athletics, Chicago Whitesox and most notably the Chicago Cubs – whom he worked for for 16 years of his career.

Caray became famous for leading the crowd in singing ‘Take Me Out to the Ball Game,’ during the seventh inning stretch.

Caray would often greet fans by mentioning something about the game or the local weather before leading the crowd off with his customary ‘All right! Lemme hear ya! Ah-One! Ah-Two! Ah-Three!’

When asked about their tribute on Thursday, Brad Zager – president of Production and Operations for FOX Sports, said:  ‘This is about paying tribute to what makes baseball iconic.

‘We hope this moment allows parents to tell their children about what it was like to watch Harry Caray, or what it was like to listen to Harry Caray lead the singing of the seventh-inning stretch in Wrigley Field, so the next generation can understand and appreciate how much it meant.’

That being said, the hologram was not met with the reaction that MLB was hoping for from all of its fans.

One fan wrote ‘Holograph Harry Caray will be making a special appearance in my nightmares tonight’

Another said: ‘No. Absolutely not. Get the hell out of here with your AI hologram ghost Harry Caray.’

Some fans did, however, express positive comments on the hologram, with one noting: ‘Harry Caray hologram singing “Take Me Out To The Ballgame” at the Field Of Dreams game. I see people hating on it but I thought it was cool.’
