Colorado Rockies pitcher Ryan Feltner was hit in the head by a line drive in the second inning on Saturday night against the Philadelphia Phillies and was able to walk off the field under his own power.

Philadelphia’s Nick Castellanos ran a 1-0 slider back to the mound at 152.7 mph.

The ball went off the right side, back of Feltner’s head.

The right-hander immediately fell to the ground as the ball deflected toward first baseman CJ Cron. Castellanos was safe with a single.

Feltner didn’t seem to lose consciousness.

He lay on his stomach before his eyes narrowed as two members of the Colorado training gear sprinted for the mound.

While the crowd was quiet, Feltner finally sat up and then stood up.

Feltner, 26, walked off with the help of two staff members as fans at Coors Field applauded.

Feltner had walked four batters in a 40-pitch first inning that saw the Phillies take a 4–0 lead.

After retiring the first two batters he faced in the second, he gave up a double to Bryce Harper before Castellanos got to bat.

Feltner was a fourth-round pick by the Rockies in 2018. He entered the game with a 2–2 record, striking out 33 in 35 1/3 innings.

The Rockies then lost 7–4 to Philadelphia and remained bottom of the NL West, eight and a half games behind the LA Dodgers – the division’s first seed.

“Ryan Feltner is under observation at a local hospital and is undergoing further investigation,” the Rockies’ official Twitter account shared after Saturday night’s loss.

No update on the right-hander’s injury status has yet to be shared.
