Missy Higgins has spoken out about her recent divorce ahead of an upcoming national tour.

The 40-year-old singer and songwriter will hit the road at the end of March to celebrate the twentieth anniversary of her debut album The Sound of White.

And now Missy has revealed the devastating impact the end of her marriage has had on the hitmaker since she went public with the split almost two years ago.

“After I went through a divorce, I felt like the whole story I had written for myself had burned to the ground,” she said in an interview with New idea on Tuesday.

Missy also teased that her new single called You Should Run is “intensely personal.”

The star will start her Second Act tour on March 28 in Frankston, before playing further dates in Victoria.

She will also be doing shows in Queensland, NSW, the ACT and South Australia, including performances in Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Newcastle and Canberra.

It comes after Missy revealed what she’s split from her husband of six years, Dan Lee, in June 2022.

She announced the shocking news that the couple had called it quits in January that year in an emotional Instagram post, explaining how the couple is co-parenting their two children.

‘Dan and I broke up six months ago. I became a single parent,” her lengthy post began.

‘Something I never thought would happen and honestly I’m still struggling with.

The “Scar” singer said she had long feared the “shame of a failed marriage” and a “broken home,” and that those things finally happened.

“I was so determined that this wouldn’t be my story,” she lamented.

“We tried in many ways to keep the story alive, to keep things together, to keep finding new avenues of hope, or a hopeful denial, as that may have been.

‘But then life happens, doesn’t it. And once again I am on my knees, utterly humiliated by my inability to control it.”

The “Steer” hitmaker further noted that she and her ex are still on good terms despite their divorce, but are “living apart” and learning to combat their new approach to parenting.

“I’m lucky though because contrary to some stories, Dan and I still love and respect each other and we came to this decision together,” she wrote.

‘He is still my best friend and we will always have each other’s back. After all, we made two incredible little people together.”

She added: ‘Sometimes things just don’t work the conventional way.’

It appears that the singer has deleted several photos of her ex from her social media network or simply hasn’t posted a photo of him in a while.
